Celebrating Jewels

There is a beautiful poem titled, The Gift Wrap & The Jewel recently written and recited by ninety-two year old, Wanda Goines, that has touched many viewers. And it reminded me of a special lady we celebrated not too long ago. Her name is Audrey and she has been struggling with her gift wrap so to speak, but she sparkles through it all.

I was honored to help decorate for her ninetieth birthday party and thought sharing these pictures would bring her some fond memories of a lovely day spent with family and friends.

Below is a picture of Audrey sitting next to her little sister, Lorene, under a sassy and fun umbrella, sent from her family in Mississippi, The weather was warm and wonderful!

Audrey's daughter brought not one, but three mouth watering delicious cakes. So beautifully decorated and yet all the while inviting a knife to make the first slice. Mmm, just mmm, the perfect way to end a Southern Menu!
Picture
The beautiful wrought iron pops in front of a lavender, flat flowing sheet and the Scrabble letter tiles reminds Audrey of her mother's favorite game. Added my own mother's china, tea cups and saucers, to serve as elegant flower planters to join in the table centerpieces. Used a damask pattern gift wrap for table runners and hung decorative spheres to draw the eyes up inside of the tents; found wrap and spheres at Hobby Lobby.

Standing above, Lorene gives a most beautiful tribute to her older sister and shared about their younger days and all the good times they had together. I never had a sister, so hearing Lorene tell some of their funny stories was really touching! Lorene, is also struggling with her health, but is shining brighter.

Many pulled together for this special day hosted by the youngest sister, Brenda and her husband, Roger. It was a beautiful day that came and went too quickly. Below are just a few more pics: the welcome sign (that Audrey didn't see because she came through the kitchen door - ha ha), the quaint outdoor setting in waiting, the guest book with tea gifts for party goers, but my favorite pic is of Audrey's great niece in the background giving her toast to a special lady. Love the imagination!

So to Audrey and Lorene, and all the beautiful jewels out there, we celebrate you! May we all shine brighter through the gift wrap.

With Love,
Christina

Wow! What a beautiful celebration of family, life, and sisterhood! I have two sisters (one older and one younger). This was a great reminder to cherish the jewels in my life!
