Whew! The last couple of weeks have been an emotional whirlwind due to the graduations all around us. I was honored to be asked to decorate for my niece's graduation celebration. Below are pictures with ideas on how to decorate for almost any party, but tailored with a graduation theme in mind. I have several go to items that I have used for parties over the years, and hope this will give you some new ideas. Chalkboard Signs Highly recommend several sturdy chalkboards to personalize your party's theme. I have three that I use the most. The one pictured here was an old train table lid that I painted with chalk paint. I rolled up some white poster paper and tied a black ribbon around it to look like a large diploma. Large Letter of Honoree's Initial It's a personal way to decorate and leave as a gift for honoree to remember their special day. The letter H, that I bought on sale at Hobby Lobby and painted in her favorite turquoise color, was great for display at the sign in table. My niece will also have it to use in her dorm room, where she wants to use the same color scheme. Tea gifts Decorate a guest sign in table with party favors for guests to remember the event. The tea gifts are easy to assemble, and can also be used as a colorful decorative display. CIick here for simple instructions. I made sure there were extras for my niece to have for herself, and for making new friends in her dorm. Of course, also having chocolate on the table, as a parting gift, makes leaving much less sorrowful! Banners Visit the Dollar Tree to see if you can find inexpensive banners with appealing letters. Found a Congrats Grad banner for a dollar, then glued letters to pendants from ironed out paper bags, and used colorful paper trim to personalize. Balloons Always check with your local Dollar Tree first. The amount of money you save can go back into the party budget and give you way more for your money. Also, stagger your balloons vertically to give more of an impact. Lanterns These are great for color, and light up for evening parties. Unlike balloons, they can be used over and over again. Candy Bar While I'm not a big fan of promoting sugar, the candy bar does look appealing and accents any dessert table. Instead of filling large bowls with candy only, try using smaller bowls and crinkle paper filler in the bottom, to create a beautiful look. Left over chocolate can be sent off to college to share with friends, and any unwanted hard candy can be reused for future craft projects. Hula Hoop Wreath This creates a beautiful and unique look for your event. Link on how to make a hula hoop wreath here. You can hang a word, number or name in the middle. Centered at the base, I used one of my smaller chalkboards. Scrabble Tiles If you own a Scrabble board, you can use these tiles in their holders to make a sweet statement. I use Simply Tacky to the back of the tiles to hold them in place. Flowers For Planting Fresh cut flowers are great, but also consider using plant packs from your local garden store. Just place in recycled cans wrapped in burlap and ribbon for your event and then plant them later. Photo Booth You may have more than you realize when it comes to supplies for a photo booth. Take inventory of what you already have before overspending: an old frame, reading glasses, funny hats, books, signs to hold are just a few ideas. You will need a backdrop and signage to help guests know where to pose. After my niece's party, I went back to the chalk drawing boards to decorate for another amazing, young lady's graduation party. Just a few more pics to show. Love how this sign turned out with whale carved fruit bowl in front. This was one of those things where I had no idea the honoree's aunt had designed this watermelon whale bowl and would place it in front of this chalkboard. For some reason, I felt led to use a whale tail and hook design for the J letter, and a fish for the tail of the letter, y. It came together very well. So I guess we have come full circle in pictures. Hope these ideas help you plan and decorate a party for someone special! Would love to know if these tips were of help to you!

This is the perfect blog post for me! I am already on my senior year and we are months away from graduating! I want to throw a party for my friends because I know that once graduation is over, we will all be busy with our own lives and it would probably take us a lot of time before we get to see each other again. If you think of it, it is actually kind of sad because these are the people that you have grown up with. They have been by your side since the beginning and it is just sad that we all have to part ways once college is all over.
