Last Days of Summer

9/21/2015

This time of year, I always look forward to the beautiful fall leaves, the cooler temperatures, the intoxicating smells of pumpkin spice, fun family festivals and the careful placement of fall decorations. However, this year has been different. My heart is sorrowful to see the summer go, and I can't quite put my finger on it.

Maybe it's a combination of all that we are seeing in the news with terror groups, struggling refuges, wildfires and concerns of a global economic collapse. If you google or youtube September 2015, you will read and see many things that are worrisome. Over and over again I feel the burden for peoples' hearts, their safety and salvation. God has quieted my fears and reminded me that my focus is to be on Him and to help others.

Proverbs 10:5 says, "He who gathers in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame."  When I read that verse before, I always thought of it in the literal sense and how one should not be lazy, but now it seems to jump out at me in the context of spiritual matters. If you look at Luke 10:2 in the New Testament, Jesus says, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." After reading these words I hope I have been diligent in sharing the gospel message for the summer is now coming to a close.

What a great reminder that we always need to be sharing and working to better God's kingdom. And what lovely pictures!

I went through a period before summer where it seemed that God was giving me opportunities everywhere to share my faith! Actually … I was about to say that it hadn't been the case recently, but I realise that's wrong. Happily, God has given me lots of opportunities, and I think a major shift in my mindset has helped me. I finally realised (after 20 years of being a Christian) that HE's the one who causes the heart change in a person. I can't make a person believe or want to obey.

Ah well. I guess it's part of getting old. You sometimes get a teensy bit smarter too. ;-)

(I've been struggling with anxiety a bit as well).

Things look bad. I turn to Jesus. I always dislike this time of the year mostly because if gets so dark so early.

So glad I visited from Christian Women Bloggers Unite Tuesday. I relate to the pain on the heart about the serious matters in the world, and yet, so wise to turn to God and focus on helping others. A lovely post.

Praying for your heart. Sometimes we feel unsettled or restless because we are reminded that this is not our home. Fall is beautiful, but it's hard to appreciate it when so much is going wrong. God is always good and right and just. We can hope in that.

Hi! Your pictures are beautiful and will carry the joys of summer into the beauty of fall! The days ahead do seem incredibly dark and troubling, but thankfully our Lord and Savior has already overcome the world. All we can do is continue to pray, love and follow His leading to share His love with those around us. Thank you for your reminder to share God in all things! Blessings!

I love fall but I really am sad to see summer and warm weather go. Hopefully everything will be okay in the world, but at least we have Jesus to be our comfort if things get rough :)

Lovely post. I always feel a certain amount of "mourning" whenever a new season closes and another begins. I'm not sure why either. Thank you for sharing!

Christina, there is definitely an urgency in my spirit as obviously there is in yours. I took a walk today at lunch up in the "holler" and all alone, I cried out to the Lord for our country and my family. Yes, Lord.

Maybe I am a very small minority here; but I am glad summer is going away...or, to be a bit clearer...the HEAT of summer! I am NOT a fan of the hot days of summertime weather in Florida! A cool breeze, temps in the 70's, sunshine is great; but the HEAT of hight 80's, 90's or more...

That being said, I love the time I can spend with the grandkids who are in school, and with the fall, a third was added to that group! Now, two more to toddle on up to school age! So, yes, I do hate to see the summer go...teachers and students go back to work/school; vacations have ended; the "lazy hazy days of summer" will pass to the cooler refreshing days of autumn...then the even cooler days of winter...I can handle that!!

Thanks for sharing!

I'm also sad to see summer go this year, mainly because being new homeowners, there was so much we were hoping to get done that we were unable to do.

Other than that though, I find I'm excited for the fall because it will be quieter. This summer was unusually busy for us.
